In a region known for philanthropy, Grand Rapids Community Foundation does philanthropy differently. Our giving is collective. We all have a role in shaping our impact, and we need your continued partnership to keep striding toward a more equitable future.
For more than 100 years, people who care about the future of Kent County have built Grand Rapids Community Foundation. We began with support from local businesses. Strong partnerships with service groups, nonprofits and community members closest to the issues we work to solve have helped us grow. The Community Foundation brings people together, listens to community members and learns alongside other funders. For us, philanthropy is a community effort.
We all have a role in creating a fairer and more equitable West Michigan—with pathways to success for everyone. The Community Foundation works to address racial, social and economic inequities. Our goal is an inclusive economy and a thriving community for all. When community members partner with the Community Foundation, they become an important part of this work.

Many partners who give through Donor Advised funds, like Iain and Kalie Charnley, increased their philanthropic activity and support for nonprofit organizations this year.
It’s a privilege to be in this position, to have the responsibility of making investments today for a better tomorrow. We treasure how you and so many community members trust us with feedback, resources, gifts and stories of lived experiences. We take seriously the responsibility of stewarding the legacies of our partners. And, we hear calls for more. Wherever there is more for the Community Foundation to do, we need our community partners to be part of it. We need your time, talent, treasure and testimony to guide and fuel our work.
Many generous donor partners have already supported this vision by giving to our Centennial Campaign. They help us tackle today’s challenges and keep striding toward a better, more inclusive future.
This region is special to each of us, and we are all invested in its future. Our community wants to engage and be part of solutions. When we bring together the people, passion and resources of our region with a shared purpose, our vision is possible. We know that together, we can create a better future.
