West Michigan is known as one of the best regions to live in. Yet, many residents still struggle to maintain access to safe and affordable housing, healthcare, quality education and sustainable jobs. These issues are complex, so we partner with organizations committed to addressing root causes of broken systems. Together, we can create lasting change.
Housing Kent analyzes data and community insight to understand unfair housing. Its reports and online dashboard help people see inequities—like how rent has gone up more than wages—and take action. Housing Kent also leads the Housing Stability Alliance, which helps different organizations share data and track progress on fair housing. Their goal is to build community-rooted housing solutions for everyone.

Housing Kent
Grand Rapids Community Foundation believes that systemic change requires vision, bold investment and coordinated efforts. That’s why we support Housing Kent. They identify gaps and co-create solutions with people who live with the realities of unfair housing. Housing Kent’s systems-change orientation, leadership by people of color and emphasis on policy and real-life experience helps them lead with honesty and integrity. Through this long-standing partnership, we hope to dismantle racial inequities and help West Michigan become a stronger, more affordable place for everyone.
The Community Foundation understands how much energy it takes to navigate barriers and to find housing, healthcare, education and job security. When those basics seem out of reach, it’s tough for people to imagine a better future or feel like they truly belong. We believe everyone deserves the freedom to dream big and reach their goals. To realize our hope for an inclusive economy and thriving community for everyone, we must first address these foundational needs.
Minnie Morey, Community Leader & Donor Partner
Our investment in equitable solutions is focused on addressing the root causes of systemic barriers. As we keep working toward a more equitable West Michigan, we promise to keep listening, learning and partnering with others on ideas that come from the community itself.
Our thriving future and the solutions to get there will be shaped by community. Grand Rapids Community Foundation listens to donor, nonprofit, grant and community partners to help guide our work. We stay focused on giving and learning by being in conversation with partners, building relationships and sharing data. This helps us keep up with what our community needs.
